the Moon Walk!

One of the most significant events of the 1960’s, if not for the entire twentieth century, was the landing on the moon on Sunday, July 20, 1969, at 4:17:40 p.m. Eastern daylight time. Two American astronauts, 38 year old Neil Armstrong and co-pilot Col. Edwin Aldrin, Jr. were the first to reach the moon. They steered their fragile four-legged lunar module safely to the moon’s powdery surface while the mother ship, Apollo 11, guided by astronaut Michael Collins, circled the moon.
Neil Armstrong emerged 6½ hours later from the spacecraft to make the historic walk on the moon. He declared “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. While an estimated 600 million viewers watched worldwide, a nylon American flag was planted on the surface of the moon with this message: Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon, July 1969, A.D.; We came in peace for all mankind.
